The magnetron is a diode vacuum tube that comprises a straight wire cathode and a coaxial anode. By applying a direct current potential between them, an electric field is created. Additionally, an external magnet is used to apply a longitudinal magnetic field. When connected to a resonant line, the magnetron can function as an oscillator. It has the ability to generate extremely high frequencies and produce short bursts of high power. Magnetrons play a crucial role as a power source in radar systems and microwave ovens.
